You Are Treasured

If the idea of living in peace with your past or the hurt you see in the world makes you uncomfortable or angry, you are not alone. Living in peace with abuse that has happened to me and to people I care about has been my most difficult struggle. I don’t talk about this lightly. We naturally guard this hurt deep in our soul and don’t want to expose it to the world. That protection is necessary in some ways. You shouldn’t expose your pain to people who can hurt you more. But, I know that there is a God who see all of your hurt and cares about every single second of it. He cares and he wants to walk with you through all of it.

When I learned to live in peace with the things from my past, I began to change. I gained confidence and hope. That peace and hope gave me the ability to get to work with some amazing survivors of abuse I could not even have imagined before. I have gotten to see into the lives of these warrior-survivors and feel honored to see the beauty and resiliency of the human spirit. I hear the voice of God in each of their stories, yelling that their lives are precious and their stories matter. When I look past religion and read the stories of Jesus, I find that message ALWAYS. He empowered people the world overlooked. Then he sent them to share that hope with others. When we know our value, it frees us to have peace with the pain in the world because we see it differently.

In everything I write and speak about, my ultimate goal is to help you rise above the pain in the world and no longer be defined by what has happened to you or what you have done. I want you to know your value. I want you to see the value in others too and tell them!

I absolutely 100% know that whatever you have lived through, the hurt, abuse, trauma, mistakes, fear: none of that is a reflection of your value. Our world is full of evil that I can’t explain. I don’t fully understand why those things happen. What I do know is that in those moments when you are suffering, God wants to comfort you, empower you, and remind you that we are still his beloved child. He wants to walk through your battles with you. He wants to comfort you. He wants you to know that you are a treasure valued above anything else in this world.

He wants you to know that you are a treasure valued above anything else in this world.

You aren’t defined by our past!

God doesn’t want the evil in this world to keep you from being all that you are meant to be . You do not have to let whatever you have been through define you. It will always shape you and how you see the world but that can bring tremendous beauty and healing as you understand God’s tremendous love for all who suffer in this world.

I know that triggers a lot of emotions. I know you still have anger to work through. It’s OK. Feel what you need to feel. You can rise above it all. You can yell at God about how bad it hurts. You can scream about why he feels so far away and uncaring. You can let go of trying to numb the pain and make it go away. You can ask him to help and he will be there when you are ready to listen and accept his loving acceptance of you.

It’s a process. It’s hard. It takes time. But you will rise. You will always be treasured by God.

I am designing this site to help you along the way. This is a safe place to share your story.

I am praying for you to have the power to rise above your circumstances and fully grasp how valuable you are. I pray that knowledge gives you peace with all you’ve been through. I pray that peace empowers you with hope to rise above it all and change the world around you.

Your Story Matters

Sharing your story frees you from the tyranny of trying to prove your value. Shared stories connect you with others who struggle in this world. That connection reminds you that suffering is part of the human experience. You will discover that you are not alone.

For My Survivor Friend Who Hates Religion

The Story of Mary and Hope for Survivors of Sexual Abuse- I know this sounds CRAZY. But consider that God- you know the creator and ruler of the universe?- He had a plan to save the world, and as important as that was, he did not consider a young peasant woman as an object to be used. That is how our creator values us. It is how he wants us to value ourselves.

The Story of a Survivor of Sexual Abuse, Divorce, Addiction, ….

Jesus’ Radical Acceptance of a Prostitute in a Strict Religious Society- If you feel judged, by religious people, you need to read this story of how Jesus confronted that attitude. I mean he was “in your face” with religious legalists and it is freaking awesome.

A Tiny Part of My Story of Overcoming Religious Shame- I was once told by a pastor that I would never have the life that I could have had because of the things that happened to me and my responses to those things. HE WAS WRONG. I have an amazing life and I’m blessed to know something that pastor didn’t understand.
