“Welcome to my author page and the Our Journeys Matter community! I pray my stories inspire and empower you to value your journey and share your stories.” -Cindy
Welcome to my author page and blog. I am passionate about sharing people’s stories and honoring their journeys. My goal is for this space to encourage you on your life’s journey.
Each project I share on this page is something I wrote for specific people in my life. I believe these stories also contain hope for you and your journey.
My first book, “Rum and Cola for the Survivor’s Soul” is written as a journal for my dear friend who was battling addiction and severe trauma. Religion had been used to shame her. In this journal, I compared the stories in the Gospel of Luke to stories of survivors I had worked with through the years. I wrote each story for her so she would see the truth that Jesus would never shame her.
Out of the Shadows is a Cinderella story I wrote for a family member who felt defined by her traumatic childhood. I wrote this story from the viewpoint of Cinderella unpacking her trauma after marrying her prince.
How Beautiful You Are- When my daughter was pretending to be Thumbelina, she would randomly scream, “Ahhh! I’m scared” as she ran to hide. When I asked what she was doing, she said, “Waiting for a prince to come save me.” Major OOF! I decided she needed a more empowering story. So, I wrote a version where Thumbelina’s strength was seeing the goodness in the world around her.
Sparkles in Life is a planner and journal written for and with my granddaughter. We wanted a practicle and fun goal setting planner that focused on valuing yourself and being kind to others. I incorporated a lot of the things I teach in life coaching and she helped me make it sparkly and relatable.
About Me
I worked in education for twenty years before pursuing my writing career. I am passionate about sharing people's stories, accurately representing Jesus, and being honest about my struggles with mental health, trauma, loss, and doubts about faith. My training as an English teacher prepared me to deeply study the context, culture, style, and themes of the Bible for (a more*) thorough understanding. My work in education, as well as volunteering, opened my eyes to systemic injustice within American church culture and society as a whole. I live in Rhode Island with my husband, (and next to our oldest son and his family). Our home is the site for tons of social gatherings. In my spare time, I write and produce a variety of projects and blogs about incredible survivors and God's heart for each of us.
“I’m still learning and growing in my faith and understanding!”
